… is a separate branch of rodenticide developed by Neogen. The main purpose of this product was to eliminate some ever lasting problems. These two products promise to kill in single night feeding, eliminate odors and keep its properties in almost every environment. This includes hot or cold weather, dry or wet areas, indoors and outdoors. The Havoc rat poison is available in two products: “Havoc Rat & Mouse Bait” and “Havoc XT Rat Bait Block Pouch”.
Havoc Rat & Mouse Bait (8.8 lbs – 4 kg) and Havoc XT Rat Bait Block Pouch (8 lbs – 3.63 kg) are a little pricey at first glance, but they are actually a little cheaper than any other good rodenticide on the market. It comes with higher prices only because it’s packed in a higher quantity. Havoc rat poison has the best money value on the market. To avoid degradation keep it in closed containers, away from heat sources or humidity. Store it with care and you won’t have to buy another rat poison for years!
The rat poison that dehydrates
We need to go a little in depth for this matter. Actually there is no poison that really intents to dehydrate the rodent. The dehydration is a secondary effect of the poisoning, and does not dry out the carcass of the dead rodent faster. Simply put, the active ingredient of this poison, Brodifacoum, provokes an internal bleeding that leads to death.
There are many reports of rats found dead near water bodies or streams, after ingesting the Havoc Rat Poison. Yes, the first symptom for internal bleeding is a severe thirst, but the rats are actually looking to ingest clay to dilute the poison; that’s why they are often found dead near water sources.
Using different poisons during the last centuries to control rat population, we triggered a slight modification in rat’s behaviors and immunity system:
The first thing they developed was taste aversion. Rats learned to only take small bites of new presented foods, to keep poisoning to a minimum. Clay ingestion helps diluting the poison, giving the rat a chance to live since it’s impossible for rats to vomit. This is the main factor that sends rats to find water at first poisoning symptoms.
- At some point, a gene mutation triggered Warfarin immunity (most used ingredient for rat poisons, until not long ago) in some individuals, which was then passed to next generation. In our times better ingredients are used in rodenticides with far greater results; still, anytime a gene mutation could develop immunity again for a specific ingredient. Havoc rat poison is known to kill the Warfarin resistant individuals.
No bad smell?
We would love to tell you that this poison kills the rats and eliminate the odors; but we would be telling a half truth. It does kill the rats but it won’t eliminate the bad smell, because that’s impossible. We haven’t found a poison yet that kills rats and eliminates the bad smell. The bacteria that forms after death, will consume the carcass eliminating a specific gas that smell so bad.
But still, we’ve found a ton of reviews that says there is no smell. We can only think about one thing: as we mentioned above, rats when poisoned tend to migrate to water sources. Being so effective, this poison won’t give rats the time to crawl back to house. Most of them die near water sources, keeping the smell at a convenient distance. Outdoors, the smell is carried away by any pale breeze.
Havoc Rat & Mouse Bait consists of 40 twin packs of 2×50 grams (2 x 1.76 oz). What we liked the most was that you don’t have to tear open the package. Just place a pack wherever you spotted rats or mice without opening them. The manufacturers did a really good job by selecting a scent permissive packing, easy to gnaw through for rats and mice. The package is so incentive that every single rat will feed on it. The twin packaging ideal for local use, is a big plus.
The active ingredient, Brodifacoum, is a second generation anticoagulant (one time feeding for a kill) and covers 0.005% of the ingredients. The rest is food-like bait, consisting of different types of grains and natural flavors; really attractive, since the rodents are chewing through the plastic packing.
Perfect for use even in winter, Havoc Rat & Mouse Bait is packed in a water resistant packing (attention, not water-proof). When using outdoors, or where it’s hazardous for pets or children, you will need to be extra careful. Check constantly for dead rats and mice, and keep your pets and children away. Bury the dead rodents, or throw them away in plastic bags. Using bait stations would drastically decrease the chances of having an unwanted incident.
Usually rats learn to associate danger with different objects or food. When using Havoc Rat Poison, this no longer represents an issue. Rodents are killed in a single feeding, and without pain and obvious symptoms. This way, unsuspecting rats or mice will have no fear eating the poison. The strong poison ingredient is enough to kill any rat even with a minimum bite.
We learned from numerous reports, that even large infestations don’t stand a chance. Some people said that they managed to clear as many as a few hundred rats and mice, though we wouldn’t recommend the usage for such serious numbers, due to serious poisoning threat to wildlife, pets or even children.
Havoc XT Rat Bait Block Pouch has the main characteristics of Havoc Rat & Mouse Bait. Main difference is packaging, Havoc XT is not packed in smaller portions. This requires extra attention when placing the bait blocks, even wearing single use gloves. Havoc XT is created specifically for bait stations; the hole in every bait block makes them easier to set in a bait station string.
If you are looking to buy the Havoc XT Rat Bait Block Pouch you should definitely buy a couple of Protecta LP Rat Bait Stations. Created specifically for the pierced bait blocks, they go perfectly with each other.
